Peek's Point, East Gosford (Caroline Street) about 1909, looking toward Point Frederick at right.
The man with the equipage is Manasseh Ward, son of early settler William of "The Heads" (Killcare Extension) and later Kincumber.
Manasseh had a stellar civic career as alderman and Mayor, and president of umpteen local organisations. He also bred excellent fowls.
Lived in Gosford and has many descendants. The Point was at one time known as Capper's Point, because that was the name of an
abattoirs owner there .... the blood ran down into the Bay and attracted sharks.
This is Mrs Catherine Ward, wife of William, and mother of Manassah, Ephraim and others.
This photo was copied from the very old and historic album owned by Mrs D. Willsher of Wamberal, a Ward descendant.
It is believed to be early settler William Ward, husband of the above, who settled at "The Heads" (of Brisbane Water") on what became known as the Killcare Extension - stones from the property are still there near the water, down below Blythe St.
In the 1850s William moved his house to Kincumber south of the creek entrance and built a wharf there (today the site would be entered from Empire Bay Drive).
