The Royal Australian Historical Society (RAHS) and the Central Coast Family History Society will be co-hosting a seminar titled Looking outside the square: exploring business and biographical records in family and local History. The event, aimed at genealogists, historians, and researchers, will cover a range of resources essential for uncovering individuals’ connections to historical businesses and institutions. Presenters will discuss how to access records from major archives, including the State Archives Collection, the State Library of New South Wales, the National Library of Australia, Reserve Bank of Australia and the Noel Butlin Archives Centre.

In addition, attendees will be introduced to the Historical Land Records Viewer (HLRV) and strategies for searching for individuals as well as land transactions. For those delving into Australian convicts, soldiers, and other significant historical figures, the Biographical Database of Australia will be highlighted. This resource offers detailed biographical information that aids in tracking individuals over place and time.
