SUMMARY:August Meeting. Liz Parkinson
DESCRIPTION:Liz Parkinson will be talking about:\nHenry Ferdinand Halloran – The Forgotten Pioneer of Avoca\nHenry Ferdinand Halloran (HFH for short) bought the Avoca Estate of 640 sq acres for £2,000 in 1908, and laid the foundations for the popular beach-side suburb which we see today. His Avoca House became a draw-card for the well-heeled from 1911 onwards, as it had swimming, tennis and golf for the summer and log fires and hot meals for the winter. He also acquired North Avoca and planned to link the two areas by a road through Bareena Island, as the council didn’t establish a road where the Scenic Highway exists today until the late 1920’s.\n
