In 2010 Terry Heffernan and Marie Riley established a writers’ workshop for our members. This ran for six two hour sessions over six months on a Saturday afternoon and continued in 2011 and 2012 with a maximum of 12 in the groups.
The aim was to encourage members to write down the results of their research and overcome stumbling blocks. Not everyone is interested in publishing a book but imagine how excited you would be if you found a written account of the life of one or more of your grandparents in a box in the garage, or a story about past times.
It was designed for members to pursue their own personal interests, to look at the first steps in actually writing and publishing their work. We shared ideas, compared and discussed different ways of writing, presentation and gave you guidelines and strategies.
The workshops were very popular and the results amazing. Some members even completed books that had been languishing for many years, others a variety of extremely interesting short pieces.
