Our History

HISTORY

The Central Coast Family History Society was formed in 1981 when a small group began to meet over coffee to exchange ideas regarding research into their family histories. As interest grew, and membership increased it became necessary for a more formal approach, thus the first election of Officers was held in April, 1983.

Meetings averaging seventy with ninety being registered in February 2001. Since that time meetings have been held at a variety of venues as the Society continued to expand.

The need became apparent for the provision of resource material covering matters pertinent to members’ research. As a result, the Society commenced the publication of various guides which have now been replaced by the Handy Solution series.

Films distributed by FamilySearch may be ordered and viewed at our premises.

The Society works closely with the Local Studies Librarian, Geoffrey Potter at Gosford Library we are indebted to him for his support.

The Society has over the past almost 30 years undertaken the recording and publishing of all cemeteries in our local government area. The latest publication being the recording and digital photography of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Cemetery at South Kincumber due for release in September 2012.
